Badrinath is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is the fourth and final stop of the Chardham Yatra. The temple, situated at 3,133 meters on the banks of the Alaknanda River, is one of the 108 Divya Desams — sacred Vishnu temples praised by the Alvars. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Vishnu meditated here under a Badri (berry) tree, protected by Goddess Lakshmi who took the form of a berry tree to shield him from the harsh weather.
The temple houses a 1-meter tall black stone idol of Lord Badrinarayan in a meditative pose. The idol is believed to be self-manifested (Swayambhu). The temple was originally established by Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century CE and has been renovated several times by kings and devotees. The current colorful facade is a recent addition.
Tapt Kund, a natural hot water spring just below the temple, is where pilgrims take a holy dip before darshan. The water temperature is around 45°C even in the freezing Himalayan climate. Mana Village, 3 km from Badrinath, is the last Indian village before the Tibet border and home to Vyas Gufa, Ganesh Gufa, and Bhim Pul.

Like Gangotri, Badrinath Temple is directly accessible by road — no trek is required. Buses and taxis go right up to the temple. This makes Badrinath accessible for elderly pilgrims and those with mobility concerns.
Optional: Mana Village & Vasudhara Falls � Mana Village is 3 km from Badrinath and is the last Indian village before the Tibet border. It is famous for Vyas Gufa, Ganesh Gufa, and Bhim Pul. Vasudhara Falls is a 6 km trek from Mana Village and is optional.

No trek is required to reach Badrinath Temple — the motorable road goes directly to the temple. However, Mana village (the last Indian village before the Tibet border) is 3 km from Badrinath and worth visiting. The Vasudhara Falls trek (6 km from Mana) is optional.
Badrinath Temple is open from May (Akshaya Tritiya) to October/November (Diwali). Best months are May-June and September-October. Avoid July-August (monsoon) due to landslide risks on the Joshimath-Badrinath road.
Badrinath Temple darshan timings are 4:30 AM to 12:30 PM (morning aarti at 4:30 AM) and 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM (evening aarti at 6:15 PM). Special morning aarti (Shubh Prabhat Darshan) requires a pass.
Mana Village is 3 km from Badrinath and is the last Indian village before the Tibet border. It is famous for the Vyas Gufa (where sage Veda Vyasa composed the Mahabharata), Ganesh Gufa, Bhim Pul (a natural stone bridge), and Saraswati River. It is a must-visit side trip from Badrinath.
Tapt Kund is a natural hot water spring just below the Badrinath Temple. Pilgrims take a holy dip in the Tapt Kund before entering the temple. The water temperature is around 45°C even in the freezing Himalayan climate. It is considered a medicinal bath.
